Hossegor, June 2011
About 10 yrs ago, in the early summer of 2011, I got sent on my first overseas magazine assignment. The client was the fantastic Huck Magazine, with my brief to document the ‘Swatch Girls Pro’ surf event on the Atlantic coast of France.
Hossegor is a fabled location for surfers, and with women’s surfing increasing in popularity, there was a lot of hype around the event. Before the event I had the chance to explore the town and its surrounding beaches, experiencing the atmosphere of a landscape softened by ocean spray. I was drawn to this seafront home and it’s huge wave mural by artist Dominique Antony, a testimony to the forces of nature that have drawn surfers to the area for decades.
