Editorial Inspiration – Andrew Hetherington

It’s a tough time to be an editorial photographer – budgets are being cut, titles are dissapearing, and as always it’s fiercely competitive. However the fact remains that we as photographers love seeing our work in print, and editorial often takes you into interesting situations with a fair amount of creative freedom.

If you’re an aspiring editorial photographer, then its well worth having a look at Andrew Hetherington’s latest blog post over on “What’s the Jackanory”. He’s posted a slideshow of his most recent assignment, covering a guy who repairs sex dolls in California. It’s a great insight into how a good photographer delivers a story – Andrew goes into a situation with his eyes open – finding interesting moments, quirky details, and obviously striking up a trusting relationship with his subject in a short amount of time. It’s quite a skill, and obviously Andrew has perfected the ability to not only make good photos, but to be good company at the same time.

Inspiring (and funny!) stuff.
